Oman’s Vinayak Shukla to Face Childhood Friend Kuldeep Yadav in Asia Cup 2025

The upcoming Asia Cup 2025 clash between India and Oman promises a rare personal storyline. Vinayak Shukla, a Kanpur-born cricketer who quit Indian domestic cricket in 2021, will now line up for Oman against his long-time friend Kuldeep Yadav.

From Kanpur Grounds to Oman’s National Side

Shukla, a wicketkeeper-batter, began his cricketing journey in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Despite years of effort, he struggled to secure opportunities in the highly competitive state circuit. Frustrated, he chose to leave Indian cricket in November 2021 and shifted to Muscat in search of a new beginning.

To sustain himself, Shukla worked as a data operator at National Metal Cans while continuing to practice cricket in the evenings. His determination soon paid off when consistent domestic performances in Oman earned him a place in the national squad.

International Breakthrough

Shukla finally made his debut for Oman in 2024, scoring an unbeaten 40 against Qatar and guiding his team to a victory. The innings confirmed his arrival on the international stage and validated his decision to move abroad.

The Asia Cup now gives him the biggest platform of his career—facing the country he once dreamed of representing.

A Special Bond With Kuldeep Yadav

Shukla shares a long-standing friendship with Kuldeep Yadav. The two grew up playing club cricket in Kanpur—Shukla for the PSE Club and Kuldeep for Rovers Club. He still remembers hitting a boundary off Kuldeep in one of those early matches, a moment that sparked admiration between the two.

Meeting him again, this time as rivals in a major tournament, is both nostalgic and emotional for Shukla. “Playing against India and facing Kuldeep will be special. It feels like life has come full circle,” he said in a recent interview.

What This Means for Shukla

  • A personal milestone: Facing India is not just another game—it’s proof of how far his journey has taken him.
  • Validation of choice: Leaving India in 2021 was a gamble, but his presence at the Asia Cup proves it was worth it.
  • Symbol of hope: His story inspires players who feel overlooked in India’s crowded cricket system, showing that success can come from unexpected paths.

When India and Oman meet in the Asia Cup, the spotlight will not only be on the result but also on the unique reunion between Vinayak Shukla and Kuldeep Yadav. For Shukla, the contest is more than a cricket match—it’s a moment of pride, perseverance, and a reminder that dreams can take shape even far from home.
