Abhishek Sharma Scripts T20I History In Asia Cup 2025 Opener As India Crush UAE By Nine Wickets

Dubai, September 2025 – Team India could not have asked for a better start to their Asia Cup 2025 campaign as they outclassed hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) by nine wickets in the tournament opener on Wednesday. But the spotlight was firmly on Abhishek Sharma, who etched his name into the record books by becoming the first player in T20I history to score a century in an Asia Cup debut match.

Abhishek Sharma’s Record-Breaking Knock

Opening the innings, Abhishek displayed fearless intent from the very first over. He reached his half-century in just 22 balls and later brought up his century in only 46 balls, making him the fastest Indian to score a century in Asia Cup T20Is. With blistering sixes and elegant strokes, the left-hander not only dismantled UAE’s bowling attack but also set the tone for India’s campaign.

By the time he was dismissed for a scintillating 112 off 52 balls, India were already cruising towards victory. His innings included 10 fours and 7 sixes, leaving the Dubai crowd in awe.

India’s Commanding Performance

Chasing a modest target of 151, India got off to a flying start with Abhishek and skipper Shubman Gill adding a century-plus stand for the first wicket. While Gill anchored the innings with a steady 45*, Abhishek stole the limelight with his record-making heroics. India eventually wrapped up the chase in just 13.4 overs, sealing a thumping nine-wicket win.

Earlier, India’s bowlers had restricted UAE to 150/8 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi impressed with the ball, picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals.

A Historic Moment For Indian Cricket

With this knock, Abhishek Sharma became:

  • The first player in the world to score a century on Asia Cup T20I debut.
  • The third youngest Indian to score a T20I century.
  • The fastest Indian century-maker in Asia Cup T20Is.

Cricket experts hailed his performance as a “statement innings,” showcasing India’s bench strength and the rise of a new match-winner in the shortest format.

What’s Next For India?

With this dominant win, India have made a powerful statement early in the tournament. Their next challenge will be against Pakistan, a clash that always carries high stakes. Abhishek’s form could prove to be a game-changer as India aim to clinch their record-extending Asia Cup title.

Abhishek Sharma’s breathtaking knock has not only given India a dream start but has also carved a new chapter in Asia Cup history. For fans, the message is clear: a new star has arrived, and Indian cricket’s future looks brighter than ever.
